Our district's roads, GP and dentist access, school places, and drainage/sewer resilience are already under strain. Major schemes—such as the proposed Wellington Road/Napier Road development—risk pushing services past breaking point unless infrastructure is funded, timetabled, and delivered first.
We support new homes—in the right places, with real infrastructure in place. This petition calls on Rochford District Council to adopt an infrastructure-first approach which is evidence-based with REAL commitment.
Residents are experiencing:
- Daily congestion and longer journeys
- Difficulty getting GP/dentist appointments
- School capacity pressure
- Flooding/drainage concerns after heavy rain
- Parking stress and loss of green space
We call on Rochford District Council to:
Require firm, published infrastructure plans before approval
(Funding source + delivery timetable + responsible provider for roads, public transport, healthcare, schools, drainage & sewer capacity)
Secure “deliver first” safeguards
Where upgrades are needed, ensure homes aren’t occupied until the required infrastructure is delivered.
Prioritise brownfield land before greenfield/Green Belt-edge sites.
Assess cumulative impacts (not one application at a time).
If you live or work locally, adding your name and postcode helps show the real level of feeling in our District.
